2001 - black boxes

In 2001, we explored the mystical potential of the black box. The unseen activities of live electronics and the way computers and processing units can be maximal or minimal but never appear to take up any more or less space.

We worked with Edinburgh Contemporary Music Ensemble to stage John Cage's Concert for Piano and Orchestra with live projection of a virtual timing system,
We also premiered Jordan Fleming's first String Quartet for amplified instruments and Hannes Raffaseder, now a festival regular, joined us from Austria joined us for performances of his improvisations for live electronics.
